Naitami Progress
Two weeks ago the Alvarado family, along with Laura and Christina, trekked down to Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, Limón, Costa Rica. The plan was to visit the Bribri community to work on logistics for our upcoming March build.
Two buses and a boat ride later we arrived in Barrio Escalantes where we were greeted by some of the Naitimi women’s group member. They showed us the amazing progress they had made with their community center as well as the area for their Bricks to Bread oven project.
We had a meeting with the group to talk about logistics for the March build and had a great lunch. Before we knew it, it was time to head back out to Puerto Viejo for the night.
The next day we met some of the women in the nearby town of Bribri. We picked up their official seal, ordered building supplies, researched window and door options and stopped at the bank. After a productive day of errands, we headed back to Puerto Viejo for the night.
The next morning we headed up to Horquetas de Sarapiquí to visit Daysi. Spent the night discussing possible options to grow and motivating her to continue with this tough, but doable, journey. The following morning met to talk business, strategize and plan for the future. We then joined her to make dulce de leche empanadas, ¡que delicia!
Watch for more information about our upcoming build in March!
