La Esmeralda de Siquirres visits San Marcos.
We just spent two beautiful days with this amazing group of women from La Esmeralda de Siquirres. Thirteen in total visited San Marcos and had an experience of a lifetime learning more about Bricks to Bread and the power of ambition. We baked bread, shared experiences, answered questions, listened to dreams, walked the rain forest and ended their time with us enjoying warm pizzas fresh out of the oven. Our first of three “field trips” was a great success. The women are motivated and ready to take this journey with Bricks to Bread. Let the work begin!
La Esmeralda de Siquirres and is located about 20 kilometers outside of Siquirres on the Caribbean side of the country. It is a small community made up of about 500 people. There is little opportunity for employment within the community. There is also little to do within the community as far as recreation goes. However, there is a swimming hole that many community members and visitors alike enjoy on the weekends. The women’s group consists of 12 active members ranging in age from 35-70, the majority of them single mothers.
